Shantelle Bonham

2015 KRSF Recipient

Ferris State University, Communications Major

“Two things define you: your patience when you have nothing, and your attitude when you have everything.” I live by this quote each and every day because I know that as soon as I can obtain it, it can be gone just as quick. I stay active in my school, church, and community. The activities in which I partake in include Dance, Cross Country, and Mime. Mime has been a very large part of my life this past year. I joined mime simply looking for something to be a part of and I got just what I was looking for and more. Mime has been a second family to me, always supportive of me and everything that I do. I am also the presiding President of Student Government at my school and Student Advisory Council for Upward Bound. I participate in various clubs such as Les Meres et Debutantes Club of Greater Lansing, Girl Scouts of Lansing, Peer Assistant Leaders for the Lansing School District, and the planning committee at school. Staying active is extremely important to me. My positions in leadership have taught me a lot and has given me multiple opportunities to grow, both inside and outside of the classroom. In the fall of 2015 I plan on attending Ferris State University where I will major in Communications, and minor in Journalism. This will allow me to become a Television news broadcaster, empowering other young black woman in knowing that their voice is worth being heard.

If it weren’t for the many extracurricular activities that I participate in, I wouldn’t have been rewarded as well as I have. In addition to various tangible awards, I have been rewarded the opportunity to build relationships with loving people who continue to support me to this day. I must say, I am truly blessed. I will continue to use to the talents God has given me to help improve the life of others.
